About 42 Worcester

42Worcester is the only alternative genre spoken word event in Worcestershire. Founders Glenn and Angela James opened the doors at 42 for the first time in March 2011. Glenn and Angela moved on, John Taylor organised the event for some months, and for six years Andrew Owens and Polly Stretton took the helm. Andrew finished in 2014, and Polly continued to run the event until June 2021 when Suz Winspear became the organiser and host. 42Worcester is considered to be one of the most welcoming event and audiences around.

The focus is on Gothic, Horror, Sci-fi and Fantasy writing though many stories and poems are about the darker side of everyday life.

We meet on Zoom during the Covid-19 lockdown, but are usually at Drummonds at The Swan, New Street, Worcester WR1 2DP on the last Tuesday of each month. Doors open at 19:00 for a prompt 19:30 start—all welcome.

If you’d like the opportunity to recite your work at 42Worcester, please read our Information For Readers And Performers page or send a comment on this blog, post / private message us on Facebook or send an email. There’s no guarantee that you’ll get a spot but we keep a reserve list. Please rehearse a 5-7 minute piece to agree our time slots.

42Worcester takes part in The Worcestershire Literary Festival run by Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe every year. Bookmark or Favourite this website to keep up-to-date!
